QUESTIONS THAT APPLY TO THIS TOPIC

• I want to delete an Investment Type in the List Editor, but when I try, I get a message that the record is in use.
• We have two Investment Types that we need to consolidate into one.

ANSWER

Create a Speedbutton that deletes the unneeded Investment Type or replaces it with the desired Type (Doing minimum labeling, since the button is only temporary).  For Deletion, run the Speedbutton on all Contact Groups; for replacement, run it on those with the Type to be replaced.  The Investment Type is then no longer in use and can be deleted—as can the temporary Speedbutton and any temporary Selection Rule used. 

Deletion

Before performing this Procedure, make sure that deleting the Investment Type will have no bad effects.

1. Choose “Tools” then select “Speedbuttons.”
2. In the Left-hand panel of the Speedbutton Editor, right-click the Speedbutton Group “System Maintenance/Change Utility.” 
3. Rightclick on “Delete Utility-General.”  Select “New Speedbutton.”
4. Enter a Name, then click "Save" from the bottom of the window. 
5. Right-click your new button and choose “New Command.”  
6. For Command Type choose “Delete Investment.”  At the bottom of the panel, click “Edit Command Data.”  
7. In the pop-up window labeled Sales Profile Speedbutton, set Investment to the Investment Type you want deleted.  “Click Add/Update.”  
8. Leave the Speedbutton Editor open.
9. Select “Tools,” then choose “Mass Speedbutton Run.”  In “Mass Speedbutton Run,” for Selection Rule choose “All Contact Groups in Database.”  For Speedbutton, select the button you just made.  Click “OK.”
10. When the process is finished, right-click the Speedbutton you just used and select “Delete Command.”  Confirm with “Yes.”
11. Choose “Tools,” then “List Editor.”  Highlight the investment type you want to remove and select “Delete.”
12. Close the Editor.

Replacement

1. Choose “Tools,” click on “Selection Rule Wizard.”  In the Wizard, leave “Create a Brand New Selection Rule” marked.  Click “Next.”
2. In the left-hand column, click the + next to “Investments.”  Click the Type to be deleted.  In the right-hand panel, select “Include in Rule.”  Click “Next.”
3. For “Selection Rule Name” enter “Contains Unwanted.”  In the folder window, leave the top line, “Selection Rules,” highlighted.  Click “Finish.”
4. Choose “Tools” then select “Speedbuttons.”
5. In the Left-hand panel of the Speedbutton Editor, right-click the Speedbutton Group "System Maintenance/Change Utility." Right-click on "Delete Utility-General." Select "New Speedbutton."
6. Enter a name.  At the bottom click “Save.”
7. Right-click your new button and choose “New Command.”  
8. For Command type choose “Delete Investment.”  At the bottom of the panel, click “Edit Command Data.”  
9. In the pop-up window labeled Sales Profile Speedbutton, set “Investment” to the Investment Type you want deleted.  Click “Add/Update.”  
10. Right-click your new button and choose “New Command” again.  
11. For Command type choose “Add Investment.”  At the bottom of the panel, click “Edit Command Data.”
12. In the pop-up window labeled “Sales Profile Speedbutton,” set “Investment” to the Investment Type you want added.  Click “Add/Update.”
13. Leave the Speedbutton Editor open.
14. Select “Tools,” then choose “Mass Speedbutton Run.” In Mass Speedbutton Run, for Selection Rule choose “All Contact Groups in Database.”  For “Speedbutton,” select the button you just made.  Click “OK.”
15. When the process is finished, right-click the Speedbutton you just used and select “Delete Command.”  Confirm with “Yes.”
16. Now choose “Tools,” then “List Editor.”  Highlight the Investment Type you want to remove and select “Delete.”
17. Close the Editor.
18. Now Choose “Tools,” select “Selection Rule Manager.”  Highlight the Selection Rule “Contains Unwanted” and click “Delete.”
