How to Fix a Contact Group that Won’t Sync with Outlook in Gorilla 4.x

  • When I do my Outlook Sync, some Contact Groups won’t sync, no matter what I do.

ANSWER

Possible reasons for this are: 

  1. The “Outlook Type” is not set in Gorilla. 
  2. The contact has too many notes. Unfortunately, Outlook has a limitation on the number of characters it can have in its “Notes” section of a contact.   

 Outlook Type is not set in Gorilla:

  1. Go to “Tools,” and then “List Order Update Utility” to open the “Update Outlook Types & List Orders” selection screen. We recommend you set the selection to “Default Address Bundle, then Secondary Address Bundle.” 
  2. Click the “Run Update” button. (Note: This will attempt to predict what is correct as the “Outlook Type.” If this sets incorrectly you will have to manually change them.)
  3. If steps 1 and 2 didn’t work, open the Contact Group(s) in question, and check that the Outlook Types are set. 
  4. Perform the sync again.  

Too Many Notes:

  1. We recommend performing a “Spring Cleaning.” This would clean up the database so it will run faster, and also alleviate some of the offending notes.  Part of the spring cleaning process “downlines” notes.  You can find the instructions on how to do Spring Cleaning on the Document Library.
  2. Once you have completed the steps of this document, perform the sync again.  

If none of these steps help you correct your issue, please contact Software Support as there may be a greater issue.
