When recording the relationships between a professional and their clients in your database, the Best Practice is to enter the relationship custom field on the client’s record rather than the professional’s.
For example, If John Smith was a lawyer, you would add the "lawyer" custom field to each of his client’s record, with his name in it.
Situational Alternative:
If the two spouses or partners in a household have different professionals, the Best Practice changes to enter those relationships on each of those two contacts instead of on the household.
This allows you to use the lawyer custom field as a filter to bring up all of his clients on the Contacts workspace.
Important:
If you instead enter these custom fields on John Smith's (the lawyer) record, this filter will not be able to show you his list of clients.
Once you have set up the relationship, it will appear in 3 places:
1. The Custom Fields for the Household
2. The Hierarchy on the Household
3. The Hierarchy on the Business of the professional

If you needed to make use of the alternative practice of entering the different professionals on the individual spouses or partners, you can still see this in the Hierarchy of the Household as seen below.
Note:
Regarding using this custom field as a filter, this does have the effect of creating two separate lists of a professional’s contacts: one list of households, and one of contacts.
