How to Make a Rule that Notifies You of Upcoming Birthdays

  1. Go to the Customize workspace.
  2. Go to the Rules tab.
  3. Click Manage Rules to open the Rule Editor Interface.

Create the Rule

  1. Click Add Rule
  2. Select Contact
  3. Name the RuleBirthday Notification.
    Select On Creation and Modification. Click OK.

Add Criteria to the Rule

  1. Click Edit in the Criteria section.
  2. Click Add in the window that pops up.
  3. Click Select.
  4. Select Contact in the first column, then Status in the second column. Then Click OK.
  5. Set the Condition to Equals.
  6. Select Client in the Value field.
  7. Click OK.

Add Actions to the Rule

  1. Click the Add button in the Actions section. Select Send Notification.
  2. On the Details tab, change the Execution to Time Based, and use the fields to select 1, Day(s), Before, ContactBirthday. Then type “Birthday Notification” into the description.
  3. On the Channels & Messages tab, set the channel to Notification Stream and type “${fullName}’s Birthday is Tomorrow” into the Notification Stream Message field.
  4. On the Recipients tab, choose Roles to open the Field Picker. Then in the first column select Contact. In the second column select Contact Coverage Team, then in the third column select Advisor. Click OK. Repeat this step for each coverage role you want to get notified.


  5. In the Quick Responses tab, click Select. Then add Add Noteand Add Follow-up and click OK.

  6. Click OK when finished.
