PROBLEM
- When trying to send a message to a Selection Rule or Contact Group, you get the error: “Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application.” If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.
- The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data.
CAUSE
There are a few things that are known to cause this issue:
- The first potential cause is in the Phone/Fax screen of the Contact Group record, the phone number and or/extension field contains text instead of just the number.
- The second potential cause is in the Address Bundle, the Address Line or Salutation has too many characters inserted.
- Character Limit for Address Bundle: 81.
- Character Limit for Salutation: 64.
Note: Spaces and hard returns will count as characters.
SOLUTION
- From the Finder, right click on the Contact Group and choose “Maintain Contact Group.”
- Click “Next” until you get to the Individual screen.
- Edit the First, Middle, and Last names to make sure each one only contains one name.
- Click “Next” until you get to the Phone/Fax screen.
- Edit the area code, number, and extension fields so that they do not contain any text characters.
- Click “Next” until you get to the Address Bundle screen.
- Edit the Address Line to reduce the number of characters so that it does not exceed 81 characters.
- Edit the Salutation so that it does not exceed 64 characters.
Once everything is corrected, you will be able to send your letters successfully.
