Duplicate Checking options in Gorilla® 4.x

QUESTIONS THAT APPLY TO THIS TOPIC

  • What are my options for duplicate checking when importing a list?

ANSWER

  1. Enable Duplicate Checking: Decide whether or not you want to check for duplicates. (Recommended)
  2. Duplicate Name Checking Type 1: If you choose to check for duplicates, the Type 1 selection is mandatory. It will mark the Contact Group as a duplicate if the last name is identical, and the first name is similar.

  3. Duplicate Address Checking: This will mark the Contact Group as a duplicate if the address is the same as any existing Contact Group. (Recommended)
  4. Additional Duplicate Checking Options: This selection will open up a different subset of options. (Recommended)
    • Import Possible Duplicates: If you want Gorilla to check if there are duplicates, but import them anyway. (Recommended)

    • Add Keyword “PossDup(Import)[Today’s Date]” to duplicates in import file. *Recommended!* (Only available if “Import Possible Duplicates” is selected): The Import Utility will add a keyword to all the records marked as possible duplicates when imported
    • Create Selection Rule for Possible Duplicates: If you want a selection rule created that selects those marked as possible duplicates for later review. (Recommended)
    • Add Keyword “PossDup(Existing)[Today’s Date]” to duplicates in Gorilla. This only applies to Individual Name duplicate checking: If you want the Import Utility to add a keyword to the already existing Contact Groups that might be duplicated by the import.
    • Add Duplicates to printable list: If you want the duplicates to be included in the list you can print at the end with all the rejected Contact Groups. (Recommended)
    • Duplicate Name Checking Type 1: If you want people with an identical last name and similar first name to be marked as duplicates.
    • Duplicate Name Checking Type 2: If you want it to mark people with an identical first and last name as duplicates.
