BGM Letters Trying to Open in OneNote

PROBLEM

  • My letters are all opening in OneNote.

CAUSE

The reason why the letters try to open in OneNote by default is because of the .ONE file extension that is used on the documents. When we began using that file extension, OneNote did not exist. The .ONE file extension, for our purposes, is used to signify a single version of the letter. When Microsoft came out with OneNote, they chose to also use the .ONE file extension, which has caused some confusion.

SOLUTION

The first thing that we recommend is that you import the letter into Gorilla, then open it through Gorilla using the Document Manager. This will ensure that the letter opens within Word. If you need to open the letter outside of Gorilla, you can follow the steps below to ensure it opens within Word:
  1. Right-click on the letter and choose “Open With.” If you have more options that show up, as in the screenshot below, click on “Choose another app.”

  2. Next, you will get a window similar to the one shown below. In this window, click on “More apps.”

  3. You will then get a list of more applications that you can choose from. Scroll down that list and choose Word, then check the box that says “Always use this app to open .ONE files.” This will ensure that each time you open one of our letters, it will automatically open within Word.

  4. Click OK, and your letter will now open in Word.
