Automation Error “Object Reference Not Set to An Instance of an Object”

Automation Error “Object Reference Not Set to An Instance of an Object”

PROBLEM

  • I am getting the error "Automation Error 'Object Reference not set to an instance of an Object'” when opening Gorilla.

CAUSE

If you are installing Gorilla on a Windows 8.1 (64 bit) system or newer, you may run into an error when opening Gorilla. This error is dealing with the Microsoft .NET version files that Gorilla needs in order to function properly.

SOLUTION

  1. Click on Start>Control Panel.
    • For Windows 10, click on the Cortana icon and search for Control Panel, then select Control Panel from the list of results.
  2. Click on Programs and Features.
  3. On the left side of the screen, click on Turn Windows features on or off.

  4. Click the box for .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)
  5. Click “OK.”
    • It will go through a Windows File Download process which will automatically reboot your computer. Just click “Next” or “OK” to continue when prompted.

Once the files are downloaded and installed, close the screen and then open Gorilla.  You will no longer see the error.
